FEDERATION FESTIVAL NEWS

National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals

Dates: January 30-31 and - February 7-8, 2016

BUILDING 4 (Bailey Hall)

The National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals program is designed to promote study and stimulate interest in American and world music literature, and encourage each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement.

The Festival is designed for ALL members of the NFMC. It is not a competition but an opportunity to perform and receive evaluation. Rules are set by the National Federation of Music Clubs, and Festivals are administered by the respective state Federations of Music Clubs in accordance with the rules that appear in the current Festival Bulletin.

The Klassically Cool Junior Club is affiliated with the Senior Club, Morning Musicale of Fort Lauderdale. Our District is the Royal Poinciana North District.

Students can enter many categories: Piano Solo, Duet, trio, quartet, Hymn Playing, Patriotic and Folk Songs, Vocal Solos, Art Songs, Musical Theater, Patriotic and Folk Songs and Vocal Duets. There are String and other instrumental categories, as well.

Students must choose a required piece that is listed in the current Festival Bulletin, plus a second piece by a non-American composer. This rule is waived for Primary Level students. The students perform their two selections before two judges and an audience. They are awarded Superior (5 points), Excellent (4 points), Satisfactory (3 points), Fair (2 points), and Needs Improvement (1 point). They also receive very valuable evaluations of their performance.

When a total of 15 points has been earned, per category, the First Gold Cup is awarded. When each additional 15 points has been earned, the next larger cup is awarded.

Students who receive a Superior rating at the District level may choose to go to State Junior Convention the first weekend in May. This is usually held at the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville, Florida. There, students compete for a First Place or an Honorable Mention. There are no evaluation sheets given for feedback.

CHRISTMAS RECITAL!!!

Christmas Recital

 Monday December 14, 2015

7:00 PM

First Christian Church - Main Sanctuary

201 SE13th Street - Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33316

Dear Families: You may invite friends and family to attend the recital. You may video. Please arrive in plenty of time to set up. Be sure your battery is fully charged as I (or whoever is videoing for me) will be using the outlet to record the recital :) No flash photography will be permitted during performances. It can be detrimental for your child to have distracting flashes going off while they are trying to focus on their performance.

Dear Students: Please wear formal recital attire. Long dresses or skirts for young ladies and suits or dress pants, and dress shirts with a tie for young gentlemen. Absolutely no jeans, shorts, tee shirts, short skirts, sneakers, flip flops, clunky jewelry, long fingernails etc. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the recital and check in for seating with the other students.

Dear ParentsPlease bring a tray of food to share for the reception table.  Please bring a little more if you have a large group attending. Please bring it to the table downstairs in the Fellowship Hall before the recital. I will provide the paper goods, coffee and punch.

Also, please allow one and a half to two hours for the recital. Remember that many people will spend hours at a sporting event, yet have a hard time sitting through a shorter cultural event like a piano recital. I promise that we will move as quickly as possible through the evening and, hopefully, you will enjoy every minute. This is a celebration of the joyous Christmas season!

Piano Four Hand Concert

Some of our students had a wonderful time at the
EVENING OF FOUR-HAND PIANO
featuring
Gustavo Romero and Dr. Jure Rozman
Bailey Hall-Broward College.
My favorite was the Fantasy in F Minor, D.940 by Schubert. The Bizet, Children's Games (Jeux d'enfants, op. 22) was also wonderful.
